President Obama�s planned speech on immigration reform tomorrow has been lauded as indication of a renewed commitment to immigration reform, as have his meetings early this week with advocates and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. So what will the president say? Unfortunately for reform advocates, not much that�s new: Obama is expected mostly to retread familiar ground on the importance of passing comprehensive immigration reform, rather than offering specific provisions he�d like to see in the law.
States aren�t waiting for reform � NPR reports that 45 states have introduced more than 1,000 bills and resolutions relating to immigrants so far this year � and polls indicate that most Americans support Arizona-style laws to curb illegal immigration. In theory, the issue should be resolved at a nationwide level to prevent harsh laws from driving illegal immigrants into other states. (There�s some concern that the Arizona law is already having that effect.) But no Republican senator has emerged to back a comprehensive bill, and with midterm elections in sight, rounding up votes for a controversial topic might be difficult before a potential lame-duck session

I have a trading account with IB, which I opened about 3 years ago. But now they need all trading account holders to provide their PAN information. They can not sell or purchase without that. My account is also in a suspended state becaus eof that(Good that I could not sell them,,, they are all about 3 times now :) )
I've applied for PAN and asked IB to provide info on what I need to do to convert my regular account to an NRI account.
Thanks but were you able to trade in Indian shares using that account after you came to USA ? I heard it's illegal to trade using the normal demat account in you are NRI from USA.

To put out a fire and to prevent it from happening again you need two things:
(1) Take the fuel away
(2) Take the Oxygen away
(3) Make sure you don't have any sparks flying around.
Immigration reform, whether for legals or illegals, needs massive support from the American people. Most of the people are in no mood to support a "reform" unless the president can stem the flow at the border.
To able to get any kind of immigration relief legislaton through, the president needs to work hard and quick at sealing the border shut. Time and again "the other side" has laid this as a pre-requisite to any immigration related dialogue.
I don't know why this is so hard to do. The border is there for a reason and it is the Federal government's responsibility to maintian its integrity, whatever it takes, National Guard, drones, US Army..whatever.
That being said, don't read too much into this "Thursday speech by the president". It is lip service, or as go_guy pointed out...political posturing.

I have master's degree from US and 6 years of experience
Recently.. EB2 has got more restricted and employers are scared to take this path now... But that does not mean you can't apply as EB2...
Earlier BS+5 years was sure shot.. not anymore...
Still MS+few years (6 in your case) should qualify as EB2.. But Job must be needing a MS qualification.. And its difficult to qualify from job/employer point of view if you are doing mere consulting that any one (MS or BS) can do...
Hire a different lawyer and check with him.. Its mostly upto the lawyer what to do and what not.. Company lawyer will always think in best interest of the company not your's...

Lets support this bill, there is a website I am trying to remeber the address, I heard while driving on kfyi radio station, where all the bills are listed and people can poll on bills and this will help the lawmakers to find what bill is popular and which one is not.

As this issue has been going on for some time I decided to add my two cents for whatever it is worth.
It is important not just to note the content of a posting but also its tone. People in this forum are smart enought to determine whether a posting contain constructive criticism or is just accusatory. I think it is better to leave the accusatory ones to die a natural death while replying to constructive posts even when they are heavily critical.
Another thing to note is that everyone has their own peculiar situation. It may quite work out that only some issues may be solved by the legislation and it may not work to a person's advantage. Even then the people who are actively involved should make the call about what to pursue and what not to. The subtle nuances of the behind the scene politics is not visible to us sitting on the outside and I personally wouldn't like insider details aired on this public forum as this would provide the opposition with ammunition. I may be a bit conceited in thinking that discussions in this forum are being watched by the opposition but I am sure that that is happening.
Meanwhile good luck to everybody and my sincere appreciation to the core IV volunteers who it appears have significant understanding of how the political game is being played.

People with grown up kids, I guess would prefer Canada over India. There are many problems starting with the education system, reservations etc. For kids who had been studying here from KG through grade 8-9 it's difficult to get dragged in the rat race in India, especially for normal kids who don't belong to any reservation category.
I also have a wild idea like US companies may look at Canada as a outsourcing destination if given very competitive package. One of the biggest advantage will be proximity to the US, so better control over quality etc. That may not turn into a big boom but is a possibility.

I am not sure if you are aware of NAFTA, it was a trade aggrement that was suppose to be the equivalent of EU in terms of trade. It failed because low-cost manufacturing took flight from Mexico to China and similar scenario for software from US/Canada to India. This trend is not going to reverse in next few years. Exceptions will always be there.
Service sector already accounts for 40 to 50% of Indian GDP and will keep growing. Based on these facts it is obvious that long term economic prospects are better in India/ China, since you are looking from your children's perspective.
Also, you mention issues about Indian education system. I disagree. There are problems with American education system also. You can't generalize. If your kids are smart they can get into better colleges like IITs etc. I think you are confusing the issue about adaptability with good future prospects.
One last thing about issues. It would be good to let your kids decide what skils they are interested in learning, most Indian parents live their own dreams through their kids. Just a suggestion :)

He simply says, we are in this mess, because the lenders were very lenient. I say, we all write to Bernake that some 10, 000 immigrants will buy homes if we all get a GC. 10, 000 may or may not buy a home, but let us just polish the numbers a little bit. 10,000 * 300,000 (average home price) = 1 million billion dollars . Actually the total figure is 3 billion $$; enough to give a massive jolt to the sagging economy. I think we should also write to Wall Street journal and all major news paper organizations about this.
In America, people gets recognized when they offers a solution for a problem faced by the country. Whiners are (who write to Bush or Senators) do not get noticed nor are respected.

yes, this whole debate is useless anyway, since there's no meaning to those dates, maybe just for extreme cases, that are delayed even beyond the usual unreasonable delay.

I'm not sure about the usefulness of this poll? If you look at the percentage of people applied on 2nd July, it is close to 70%. Assuming some error in the polling percentage, this poll indicates that atleast 50% of people have appplied already on 2nd July. As per the press reports, USCIS has received around 55000 applications on 18th July. That means another 55000 people only are going to apply by 17th Aug making a total of 110,000 plus minus 20,000. I do not believe this number and the poll. Any arguments here?

Lot of people get stuck in the name check in AOS, and many of them wait for at least 6 months. I am wondering if someone may get stuck in namcecheck and may have to wait for months in home country while doing cp?
